National Wildlife Refuge Excursions
Bull River Cruises will host cruises to the Savannah and Wassaw Island National Wildlife Refuges. Each Refuge is unique in its natural history. A brief description of each follows, along with a schedule of trips. |

Savannah National Wildlife Refuge
- One of the best bird watching spots in
Georgia. Savannah Refuge is the single largest federally protected tract of land
on the Georgia coast consisting of 26,349 acres of fresh water marshes, tidal
rivers, creeks, and bottomland habitat. A large percentage of the refuge is only
accessible by boat. Using our specially designed vessel, we will explore areas
of the refuge that only few are able to access. Southern plantation culture
dominated the majority of this area in the 1700’s; today’s wading birds and
waterfowl benefit from this labor. (5 hours afloat) Skidaway Departure.

| Wassaw National Wildlife Refuge- Wassaw Island is considered the most primitive island on the Georgia coast and is the best representation of what the barrier islands looked like before Europeans arrived. Explore seven miles of deserted beaches and 2500 acres of beach dune and upland forest communities, roads and trails. More than 204 species of birds have been identified on Wassaw. The Carretta Research Project assists loggerhead sea turtles of the area in their nesting on Wassaw Island. Reached only by the water, Bull River Cruises is proud to be able to provide accessibility to this pristine area. (3 hours afloat, 3 hours ashore) Downtown Savannah Departure | |||
